In a landmark push toward modernizing municipal surveillance and traffic management, the Sindh Safe Cities Authority in collaboration with Karachi Traffic Police has finalized the deployment plan for AI-powered cameras across Shara-e-Faisal, University Road, and MA Jinnah Road.
The cutting-edge camera network features automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR), facial recognition capabilities for high-security transit zones, and algorithmic traffic density monitoring that dynamically adjusts traffic signal intervals during peak rush hours.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, the system will directly link with the automated e-challan database, issuing instant digital fine notices to vehicle owners via SMS within minutes of detecting a road infraction.
Civic groups and daily commuters have welcomed the move, expressing hope that computerized enforcement will drastically curb reckless driving, unauthorized commercial stops, and congestion at major choke points across Karachi.
