K-IV Water Supply Pipeline Reaches Phase-1 Milestone in Malir

In what is heralded as a crucial breakthrough for resolving Karachi’s chronic municipal water shortfall, construction teams working on the flagship K-IV Greater Bulk Water Supply Project achieved pressure-tight commissioning across 42 kilometers of main trunk pipeline.
The multi-billion rupee federal and provincial joint venture is engineered to pump 260 million gallons per day (MGD) of raw water from Keenjhar Lake in Thatta directly to filtration reservoirs in Karachi East and Central.
Project directors confirmed that three giant pumping stations in the Jhimpir sector have achieved 80 percent civil completion, with power transmission line towers being erected in coordination with NTDC.
Upon full commissioning of Phase-1 next year, residential areas including Landhi, Korangi, Gulshan, Scheme 33, and Surjani will receive equitable pressurized supply, dramatically curbing dependence on expensive private water tankers.
