Commuters traversing Karachi’s bustling northern-central corridor received a significant transit upgrade today as forty brand-new diesel-electric hybrid buses built for the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) were unloaded at the Karachi Port terminal.
The 18-meter articulated vehicles are equipped with Euro-V low-emission powertrains, dedicated seating zones for women and persons with disabilities, onboard high-definition CCTV security linked to the Central Command Center, and contactless automated fare gates.
Speaking to the press during an inspection ceremony at the Numaish Underground Station, the provincial transport minister announced that the fleet enlargement will slash peak-hour headway from seven minutes down to three minutes, significantly relieving passenger congestion across 22 operational stations.
Authorities confirmed that trials along the extended corridor connecting Gurumandir toward Municipal Park will commence early next month following civil signaling integration.
